Sc2 why no lan

I still can't believe they cutout LAN play. It's nice to play multi-player games sometimes without the fear of going up against someone WAY better than me. No matter how good the match making algorithms claim to be, I'm never as good as they think I am. At least with LAN play if someone is that much better than me, I can make adjustments to my strategy in the real world and introduce some cloak and daggery.

Or just yank the power cord. Last edited by max on Fri Jul 30, pm. The LAN play issue is just a small piece of a bigger problem. Why do I have to sign into Battle.

What if I am traveling? This push in PC gaming to require always on internet connections bothers me. I should only being signing into Battle. I would chalk these changes up to Activision more than Blizzard, at least I hope so. We are all aware of their desire to wring the most profit out of franchises regardless of whether they get run into the ground. I just hope that doesn't happen here Last edited by severusx on Fri Jul 30, pm.

First I'd like to say that SC2 is getting way too much press and articles. It's a game. It was released. Just wrap up all this stuff in 1 review article and let's get on with it.

Before you know it, you're out buying your own copy to play on your own. Spawned LAN play was sort of like the crack dealer giving you a free hit of crack. I don't think Blizz's bottom-line will be impacted by this either.

You don't see kids dragging their x-box's over to friends' houses to have x-box "lan" parties. You can play the campaign offline, you just don't earn achievements. It's sad to think that they don't support that anymore.

And piracy is such a lame excuse since I don't even believe their "quality experience" line, considering Starcraft still sells to this day. Yes, it's an extremely pirated game, but it's also one that has had VERY long legs. I guess any other dev wouldn't care one bit about the high piracy if they could get one game to do as well as Starcraft. Enough with these non stories, put it in the review and put out a review to be proud of, and stop clogging up the games section with snippets.

I love SC2 but I'm a bit annoyed that I had to buy 2 copies of the game just to play multiplayer within my own house. I admit that I probably would be more annoyed if I was poorer and couldn't afford two copies but this basically means that SC2 cost me From the article: "Now that the game has launched, the absence of LAN play has proven to be a real concern for our readers. If Blizzard doesnt offer it I'm confident, somewhat, that the modding community will. Not having LAN play is fine with me but smart routing is also key to me. I don't mind having to go online to get paired with your friends in the same room but traffic shouldn't have to go out and back in for each person in the game. Maybe a full game wouldn't be doable only because the internet bandwidth it would require not just for all those people to go out per player but also to go back in per player.

If the client is successfully routing the traffic over the local addresses once paired I would say it's a non issue. For example with call of duty 2 and MW1 those games will kick players from the same IP so friends can't play at the same time while visiting which is a pain in my ass.

The original starcraft also has this same problem if you want to play with 6 players online and 2 on LAN. Always routing issues. Might work for a while but eventually drops. I know there are places with no internet as that is how my home town is currently and plenty of places near I work also don't have internet. But, even still with these places that have no high speed access I wonder about the survey results with people who went online to participate. I would guess if they participated in the online survey and chose to pass based on no LAN play that they were only going to play hacked copies.

Even if only the friends who visit were playing with hacked copies and one person actually bought the game. Having to log into battle. I personally am not a huge fan of playing games like this online RTS , but I do love having a couple friends over and playing them together, such as we did with Warcraft 3. Here's an idea: Have the game check your CD Key upon start up. If it's invalid you can't play, if you don't have an internet connection it defaults back to letting you play single player only.

Or use something similar to how steam check the games there. With this giant overhaul to Battle. I don't know if it's been asked before but I wonder how the fact that sc2 is a trilogy will affect this. As far as I can remember, we were gonna get all three races for multiplayer immediately right? This would at least let you to have a LAN-type game with your buddy without having to buy the whole thing twice My gut tells me Sooda Diversity enchants.

All races available with first release. Three games differ only by campaigns in Warcraft terms. Someone who has Terrain version can play with opponent who owns Protoss or Zerg version. This is going off topic, subject is having LAN available or not and its alternatives. I'm with vypur on this one.

There are servers for Battle. I wish they kept the warcraft III system. I frequently use LAN with my brother to play without delay. Nikonix New Member. Hope Hope the Starcraft2 has some possible way to try maps whit ur friends. It is called free servers my friend. The only problem in them is that the range of people playing in them isn't that big or good but then again battle net sux so bad that people usually leave on the 5th minute so This could provide to be painful for people who get capped easily but other wise i see no problems except for them ppl on the islands who have pcs who enjoy lans with friends and family and have no net not to be sarcastic at all.

Hotrootsoup New Member. Sorry if this has already been posted, but I didn't feel like going through 4 pages of ranting. I think what Blizzard is doing is that once you log in to B. That way, you can still play lan, but B. At least, thats the smart way of doing it.

Hotrootsoup said:. I agree, a lot of people's job depends on people buying the game, you know? THey also have families to take care of. Battle net sucks. It has all the world's noobs and leavers in one place. Somehow in GGC there were almost no leavers, there were noobs, but only in the noob Rooms DarkRevenant Mad Scientist. When is the last time you play lan SC with your buddy? SC2 is just graphic update version of SC1.

Go try this on your computer, turn all of your graphic setting to the lowest, you will see it is SC1. Blizzard is just resell SC1 after 12 years with their graphic update. I do enjoy the replay videos that I can share with friends. Did any of your buddy bought SC2?

About once a month in the winter there's usually at least 4 of us. Hang out, trash talk, catch up on things, drink, talk more trash, smoke a joint The atmosphere is a lot better when it's you and your close friends as opposed to you sitting in front of a computer doing the same thing. What do you mean by doesn't have to be fast enough for a 3v3? FWIW there are major delays when playing a 3v3 on my connection.

I'm sure that Activision was behind it, that doesn't excuse Blizzard though. In the end the game was put on the market under their name. Am I wrong to expect certain things from the sequel of one of the greatest RTS games ever made?

One of those things being keeping certain features that made the game so enjoyable for a lot of us.
